COLLABORATIONS

Partnerships and collaborations have always been central to our work at Delta. From early on we were often seen as an incubator for new initiatives or grassroots organizations to get off the ground with our support and leadership. In 2009, we not only embraced change, we were the lead agency in Black Creek's Local Immigration Partnership Project, where we invited other agencies, organizations and newcomers to "be part of the change".

Given our track record for establishing effective partnerships in the community, and funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada, we embarked on a journey by building collaborations and bridging new partnerships to develop a settlement service delivery model that meets the needs of newcomers in Black Creek. For the first time, grassroots organizations and newcomers have been empowered to have a voice in this process. In December at the first community meeting the participation exploded from 12 agencies to over 30 agencies being represented in addition to a number of newcomers. For some agencies, involvement in this initiative has prompted the encouragement of newcomer participation within their own agency.

Another initiative underway for Delta is our collaboration with in the creation of the Rexdale Multi-Service Community Hub. An exciting endeavour involving multiple funding and community partners as well as United Way and the City of Toronto. This Hub is envisioned to house a satellite community health centre and offer a diversity of services in one location allowing for easier access.
